YAHOO X TATTOO

On August - 31 - 2010

Just more evidence on how the mainstream audience is more accepting to tattooed people and lifestyle. I login to my personal account to check my Fantasy Sports (I know, I’m a undercover geek) and guess what I see as a landing page? As far as the stigma that entails having some ink, that seems to be almost long gone. Not only has the tattoo culture gone mainstream as evidenced by TV shows and magazines, it’s gone web 2.0 ;)

O.S.O.K.

On August - 31 - 2010

One Shot, One Kill. That is what the acronym OSOK stands for. Edgar Hoill is the editor for Lowrider Arte and superstar photographer. Edgar also has an affinity for tattoos as well. After all, he’s almost completed his full body suit and is almost running out of real estate. I stopped by a staff meeting and ran into Edgar in the lobby and asked to see Edgar’s latest piece.

Edgar’s latest piece by Krazy K from Japan.

HONORABLE MENTION

On August - 9 - 2010

Stopped by The Honorable Society to wrap up a meeting with BBI editor John Jarasa, Greg Yamamoto and take a tour of this place. We met up with the lovely artist Arlene Darling and she gave us a tour of this facility and let me tell you, this place is the business from the decor to the talent. Big things to come. Stay tuned. Here are a few snaps:

ABOUT FACE

On August - 12 - 2010

BBI stopped by the Mayor of Alhambra, CA, Face Castello aka. Inkface Tattoos. Inkface Tattoos has one of the hottest studios eastside of Los Angeles complete with a Louis Vuitton tattoo chair to boot (talk about Hollywood swagger). After a few shoots and a meeting, we took our complimentary Monster energy drink and and bounced. Face, congrats on winning 1st place at the 2010 BodyArt Expo, you deserve it man.

MINIMALIST COVERUP

On August - 13 - 2010

Went by Ranz Motorsports today in El Monte to talk to Randy about a few things and I noticed his tattoo. Upon closer inspection, it’s actually quite interesting. His tattoo is a portrait of a person in his past and the coverup was quite funny in a Johnny Depp/Winona Ryder kind of way.  Talk about wearing your heart on your sleeve, apparently she does too.

WWF

On August - 19 - 2010

No, I don’t mean the federation of muscle-bound wrestlers that go by monikers “The Rock” or “Triple H”. I’m talking about visually stunning and creative tattoo’s by Art Director Jianyong Zhu of Dentsu Agency, Shanghai. These images depict some of the rare and nearly extinct animals now being protected by the World Wildlife Fund. The tattoos are great, but the kicker is the creativity behind them.

UNDER COVER-UP

On August - 10 - 2010

Whether it’s something done out of impulse, drunken nights in Hollywood, a novice scratch artist or just plain emotion, some people regret what was permanently imprinted on them. It was a good idea at the time is usually the mindset. Nonetheless, sh*t happens. Often times people may get a tattoo that they don’t particularly care for like a name or maybe a handmade tattoo that they may have liked when they first got it but as time passed, they less enamored with it. In that case, they have the option of changing it to another design or covering it up. Many factors come into play depending on what the design is, how light or dark it is or placement. All of this determines whether you can change it or whether you have to cover it up.

Some notable celebrity cover ups are are none other than Johnny Depp’s “Wino Forever” and Angelina Jolie’s “Billy Bob dragon”

Angelina lasered off the “Billy Bob” tattoo and covered it up with the longitude x latitude locations of her where her children were adopted from.

Johnny Depp’s tattoo of a time when he was with Winona Ryder had “na” lasered off and ended up with “Wino Forever”
